Course Overview
This focused training is designed for field-level construction professionals working under MMCD contracts, including superintendents, field clerks, and supporting roles such as estimators and project managers.
Participants will gain practical tools and knowledge to navigate MMCD clauses, minimize risk, and improve profitability on municipal construction projects. With BC municipalities increasingly relying on MMCD—and some requiring Gold Seal-certified site leaders—this course is both timely and essential.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion, participants will be able to:
- Understand how MMCD affects construction risk during bidding and delivery
- Distinguish between Changes, Extra Work, and Quantity Variations—and price them correctly
- Calculate markups for Force Account work
- Submit accurate and protected quotations for Changes and Extras
- Navigate contract protections related to concealed conditions and hazardous materials
- Identify critical deadlines that can impact profits or costs
- Use contract mechanisms to gain more time due to abnormal weather
- Avoid unintentionally waiving rights to claims
- Maximize project incentives and avoid penalties through proper execution
- Apply best practices for dispute resolution and contract adjustments
